History of Ciutadella de Menorca

Ciutadella is a historical city in Menorca, on the Balearic Islands and was founded by the Carthaginians.

The town was destroyed in 1558 after being under siege for 8 days, and remnants of the past can still be found in a lot of the town’s architecture, even though it has been rebuilt since.

In the 17th Century, many of the civil and religious buildings were constructed in the Italian Style and gave it a historical and artistic unity.

You can find many historic buildings and cathedrals dating back to the 13th Century, along with many houses and establishments maintaining the classical Italian style from the 1700s.
