One of the best ways to get to see it´s seaside views is by walking along the La Concha Promenade, 2km long, with many bars and restaurants along the way and benches dotted along.

Visit the incredible Basílica de Santa María del Coro and head inside for even more beautiful features or also visit the Cathedral del Buen Pastor. You can learn about the cultural heritage at Museo de San Telmo, the building itself is just as impressive as a 16th Century Dominican Convent and Renaissance-era.

The City Hall in San Sebastian is a great place to visit, you can see it´s incredible architecture and if you look closely you can still see bullet holes in the exterior of the building as they remain from the Spanish Civil War that took place (1936-1939), you will also find the Alderdi Eder Gardens, a great spot to stop and relax after walking along the Promenade.

Explore the Old Town for the best way to get a feel of its culture, pedestrianized cobblestone streets you can wander around it's many bars and restaurants and enjoy the beautiful views of the Historic Buildings. Many bars offer ´Pintxos´ at lunch and Dinner times, which is also known as Tapas in Spain.

Or for a different outlook you can visit the Plaza de la Constitución with a huge square which was once used as a bullring, but this is now a Neoclassical square filled with crowded bars and restaurants, with more delicious pintxos to try.

History of San Sebastián

San Sebastián is on the Bay of Biscay in Spain´s Mountainous Basque Country.

San Sebastián has two names, Donostia is its name in the Basque language called Euskera, and San Sebastián is its Spanish Name.

The city's unique geographic setting made it a perfect port and military stronghold, as walls were built to surround the city and protect it from outside forces. Between 1808 -1813 Napoleon´s troops occupied the city but was later driven out by Anglo-Portuguese troops led by the Duke of Wellington, the city was destroyed, except for a few buildings. The Donostiarras rebuilt the city, and the Old Quarter was reconstructed and remains much like it was.

The city's old town goes back to medieval times, however a lot of it had to be rebuilt after a fire devastated the city in 1813.

The Basílica de Santa María del Coro has one of the city’s finest Baroque and Churrigueresque architecture. Inside you will find many treasures to admire.

Iglesia de San Vicente was built in the 16th Century with a Gothic Style, and one of San Sebastián´s oldest places of worship.

The Good Shepherd Cathedral of San Sebastián is the most remarkable religious building in the City and was constructed in the 19th Century.

The City Hall in San Sebastian was home to the city´s Gran Casino between 1887-1924, and in 1947 it became the City Council's Headquarters.
