The Monastero di Santa Scolastica is organized around three cloisters; one Renaissance and one early Gothic; the third, designed by Cosmati, is defined by a vaulted ceiling. Surrounded by a large portico, it is considered the most beautiful. In 1464 two German monks, disciples of Gutenberg, built the first Italian printing works at this site. Monastero di Santa Scolastica became an important spiritual and cultural centre, closely connected with the Monastery of San Benedetto located 2 km away. Accommodation includes 110 beds in 48 rooms with 1 - 4 beds, each with private bath. Both men and women are welcome.
