Beside the River Lea you will find Wardown Park, you can take a stroll around it’s beautiful park and see it’s arts and craft style patterned brickwork and Daisy Chain wall, wander across it’s suspension bridge or even explore the Wardown Park Museum and there’s even a lake filled with ducks. 

Head to the Life’s Journey Gallery in the Discovery Centre and see the collection of horse drawn vehicles, with a total of 63 exhibits to see. 

St Mary’s Church is Bedfordshire’s largest Church, and has an incredible exterior made from flint and stone checkered pattern and can be found in the center of town. 

You can visit the largest Zoo in the UK, Whipsnade Zoo just outside of Dunstable 20 minutes from Luton. With its incredible variety of animals varying from Cheetahs, birds from around the world and Rhinos among many others and a range of animal experiences for you to enjoy. 

Explore Wrest Park and see Its many sculptures which adorn the gardens and other monuments from the 18th century. And another park to enjoy its quiet space and beautiful scenery is the Stockwood Park. 

You will find most of Luton’s restaurants in the Town Center, so it is ideally located around the most popular sites in Luton.

Travel 

Luton has its own International Airport (LTN) and is London’s 4th airport 35 miles north of the city and is an extremely popular airport. There are trains to and from the Airport and local buses, so it is well connected with transport to get you to your destination. 

There are 3 railway stations in the town center with trains running regularly and to popular destinations such as London, Nottingham, Brighton and many more. One station is in the town center, one towards the north of town and one close to the airport. 

You can get around Luton by Bus very easily, and there are many stops throughout town and surrounding areas for you to travel to. 

It is extremely easy to get around Luton by car, and one of the better ways to see the sights and explore the area. 

Luton is a large town situated in the East of England situated on the River Lea founded by the Anglo-Saxons in the 6th Century. 

Luton was once known as Loitone, Leueton and as Lintone amongst other names.

By 1240 the town had an annual market for surrounding villages each year and from 1338 the town’s growth led to a second fair each year. 

There was a great fire in 1336 which destroyed much of Luton but was soon rebuilt. 

In the 17th century hat-making became a big industry in Luton, and by the 18th century it dominated the town as its only significant industry. 

In the 19th century the town grew strongly, and its population grew from 3,095 to almost 39,000 in the space of 100 years. The Construction of a Railway was essential to its growth and was opened in 1860. 

In the year 930 the Church of St Mary’s was built, over the centuries the Church has been rebuilt and refurbished, and It is now considered a great example of medieval architecture.
