History of Strasbourg

The city of Strasbourg also known as the Capital City of Christmas is the largest city in the Franco-German border in Alsace. The city celebrates Christmas each year like no other, the renowned market is the largest in France. The market is the oldest in France as it dates back to 1570, it draws today millions of pilgrims and shoppers from all countries each year.

Wordly famous for its towering Gothic cathedral, it is one of the most magnificent cathedrals along the Rhine River. A late Gothic masterpiece, it is one of the tallest cathedrals in the world. It is also very famous for its astronomical clock and also records the first Christmas tree set up in a Christian house of worship from the archives back in 1539.

Another important place of worship in Strasbourg is the Saint Paul’s protestant church,  built in the 19th century. This church was built to be used by the protestants garrison church for the German army, after the annexation of Alsace to the German Empire in 1871.
