History of Toledo

Toledo is a city in the central of Spain located in the Autonomous Community of Castilla la Mancha, with an extensive cultural and monumental heritage.

It is known as the ´´city with three Cultures´´ due to its influences from the Christians, Muslims and Jews.

The 13th century high Gothic Primate Cathedral of Saint Mary of Toledo is a Roman catholic Church, with the last Gothic contributions being made in the 15th Century, and also combines some Mudéjar style architecture.

In the highest part of Toledo you will find the Alcázar which is a fortress and was used as a Roman Palace in the 3rd century, during the siege in the Spanish civil War many parts were destroyed however they were rebuilt or restored between 1939 to 1957.
