History

The ND de Belval abbey was founded in 1893 on the initiative of Abbot Trannoy, parish priest of Troisvaux who determined some Trappistines from the Abbey of Laval, in Mayenne, to found an abbey in an old stately home in the heart of the Ternois.

The foundation was put under the patronage of Saint Benoit Labre. Following the departure of the religious congregation from the Cistercian order in 2012, continuing the work undertaken and completing it with new activities corresponds to the aspirations and needs of the territory.

The association wishes to develop initiatives to continue to bring this place to life, which is one of the remarkable sites of the Ternois.

Grounds & Gardens

It consists of two distinct parts.

A first area, at the bottom of the valley, is open.Large lawns are bordered here and there by shrub beds and trees. In its center, a set of yews and lime trees resembles a mini French garden.

The second part of the park, which faces the imposing abbey building, is more wooded. Magnificent rows of marquise-cut lime trees invite you to a bucolic stroll. they open up beautiful perspectives in this wooded part. The course runs along the perimeter wall to end in the woods. A few surprises (statutes or remarkable trees) punctuate the visit.

In summary, the sobriety and the simplicity of the place make all the charm of this 4 hectare park.
