History

In 1894 after her beatification, the house became a religious institution. In 1994 it became a centre of hospitality for the devotees of Sophie Barat, for those seeking spiritual retreats or for tourists wishing to visit the town. “It does not contain works of art,” said sister Marie-Therese, “but it is a très jolie Maison.” The house dates back to the 16th century and is nestled in a pretty garden that links the buildings of the complex. The river, tranquil woods and lush vineyards of Joigny are only a five-minute walk from the centre.
