The birthplace of St. Francis and St. Clare, Assisi is a beautiful medieval town occupying a serene, gentle landscape. Grandly situated halfway up Monte Subasio, Assisi’s pale marble buildings are just a prelude to the prettiness of the town. Flowers adorn the streets, fountains add sparkle to the quaint piazzas and at every turn, splendid views await.

There are two facilities annexed to the Basilica Patriarcale e Protoconvento della Porziuncola. The Domus Pacis, which has recently been remodeled and the Casa di Accoglienza Le Stuoie.

In 1209, Porziuncola was donated to St. Francis by the Benedictines and marked the birth of the Franciscan Order. The church is also the site where St. Francis died in 1226.A relief by Andrea della Robbia and a wooden choir are among the treasures of the Porziuncola church, monastery and museum.
