Overview

Today Iona remains a center for pilgrimage and tourism. The Abbey is managed by Historic Scotland whereas the Iona Community remains as a living, worshipping presence. They do not offer retreats but rather an experience of living in the community, where guests share dormitory accommodations, eat with the staff, help with chores such as chopping vegetables, washing up, etc, for half an hour or so each day.

The Abbey: It has one dorm sleeping 6, one sleeping 4, two sleeping 3, several bunk bedded rooms for 2, some twin rooms and one room with a double bed. There are 3 single rooms for people with medical/disability issues. The Abbey is not disabled-friendly.

The MacLeod Center: It has 4 dormitories sleeping 5 people of the same gender (or a family of 5 in one room) and 4 dormitories sleeping 7. Each dorm has one top bunk bed. No rooms in either facility are en-suite. There are baths and showers in MacLeod Center, showers in the Abbey.
