Overview

The property has 50 beds in single, double and triple rooms, all with shared baths. Both men and women are welcome. Hospitality is offered primarily to groups carrying out spiritual activities. Families and individuals are hosted if rooms are available.The convent is just outside the small town of Amelia in a landscape of incredible beauty. Nestled in a solitary woodland, the monastery presents a memorable vision.


History

First built in the 14th century, it was enlarged in the 16th century with simple and harmonious structures including the main cloister and surrounding buildings. There is a prized wooden choir in the church, but the most important artwork is the Permanent Christmas Crib (Presepe Permanente), created in 1964 by Spanish artist Juan Marì Oliva.

By car: Exit at Orte on highway A1. Follow the signs to Orte for 2 km and look for a sign to Amelia. Once in Amelia, follow the signs to Monte Nero (5 km).

By train: Get off at Orte (Firenze-Roma line) or Narni-Amelia (Roma- Terni line) and take a bus or taxi to Amelia. Monday to Friday, there is a minibus from Amelia to the convent which runs every hour.
