Overview

There are two types of accommodations which operate independently, but both belong to the monastery.

1) Hospedería Iranzu: 19 beds in 4 large rooms with private bath. Both men and women are welcome.

2) Inside the monastery: 21 single rooms with a shared bath and a large dormitory with shared bath. Both men and women are welcome, but only in groups of 20 or more.


History

As befitting a Cistercian institution, the church and its cloisters reflect an austere but graceful simplicity. The first information about the monastery dates to the 11th century when it was a Benedictine institution, founded by Saint Adrián.

Within the next hundred years, the monastery had just about disappeared; the church was the only evidence of its previous existence. The institution was rebuilt in 1176 by the Cistercian Order with funds supplied by Don Pedro de Paris, Bishop of Pamplona.

All meals can be supplied on request in the hospedería and within the monastery.

By car: From Pamplona take route N111 southwest to Estella and then follow the signs taking NA120 north towards Abárzuza/Iranzu and the monastery.

By train: Get off at Pamplona and take a bus to Estella. From Estella take a taxi to Iranzu.
