Overview

The shrine was founded around the 13th century after the apparition of the Virgin Mary to a criminal. Despite the vicissitudes that vexed the shrine throughout the centuries, it has become a popular pilgrimage site. The sisters of Notre-Dame de la Salette manage the institution and offer hospitality to visitors and pilgrims.

For accommodation, there are 35 to 75 beds (depending on the season) in 53 single and double rooms and 1 dorm with 10 beds. Baths are mostly shared. Some rooms have private baths.

All meals are provided with the lodging. Breakfast 3.00, lunch 12.50 to 13.00, dinner: 11.00, picnic lunch: 6.00.

Other facilities

Towels and linens are only supplied in the single and double rooms. Guests in the dorm must supply their own sleeping bags. Two dining rooms and a reading, TV room.

By car: Take A72 and exit at Les Salles. From there follow the signs to Noirétable on D53. Once in Noirétable follow the signs to the shrine on D53. By train: Get off in Noirétable and take a taxi or call the sisters and arrange for transportation. Public transportation to the shrine is difficult.
