Overview

Villa Crawford is a charming historic villa and a house of religious hospitality located in the picturesque Marinella area of Sant'Agnello, just 1 km from the enchanting town of Sorrento. Perched gracefully overlooking the sea, Villa Crawford is enveloped by a lush, expansive garden, offering guests numerous panoramic terraces and serene green spaces perfect for relaxation.

A delightful public and private beach is a mere 100 meters away, easily accessible on foot, allowing for spontaneous seaside strolls. For those looking to explore the surrounding treasures, convenient public transport options to Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Naples are just 900 meters away.

The accommodations at Villa Crawford come fully equipped with private bathrooms and modern comforts including air conditioning, Wi-Fi, TV, hairdryers, and fresh linen.

History

Walking along the stretch of coast in front of the beach "La Marinella", overlooking the sea, resting on huge ramparts that rise from the water, you can admire the beautiful villa that belonged to the American writer Francis Marion Crawford, who chose to live in Sant ' Lamb since 1885, the year of his marriage. Thanks to the wonderful location, overlooking the sea, it is possible to admire the Gulf of Naples, the imposing Vesuvius, and the islands of Ischia, Procida, and Capri.

On the writer's death in 1909, the villa passed to his eldest daughter Eleonora, wife of the noble Pietro Rocca di Roccapadula, to whom he gave two children: Leone and Honorius. The first became a lawyer and, at a mature age, a Jesuit; the second became a talented musician and composer, and, on the death of his father, he became a priest and spiritual guide of many young people who frequented his house, Villa Crawford, which he donated, as early as 1954, to the Institute of Mary Help of Christians.

In the history of Sant'Agnello, this villa has played an important role, because it is a point of reference and meeting point of the cultural environment of the time, a cross-section of the nineteenth century, in which the original atmosphere is still palpable, despite the passage of time. The religious house boasts a tradition of hospitality and serenity. The climate contributes to making it a privileged place for spiritual recharge, rest, and relaxation.

Through the Oratory, an educational place open to all young people, it offers an experience rich in human and Christian values which are expressed in a range of educational proposals suitable for different ages.

Food & beverage

An internal restaurant is available that offers both the menu for half board and the menu for full board where it is possible to choose a first between two proposals and a second between two proposals.

The price per meal for half board or full board is € 20.00 per person per meal, with drinks not included. It is possible to freely choose to serve yourself from the restaurant with an a la carte menu.

The House is a few meters from the Marinella beach and the garden overlooking the Gulf of Pecoriello.

The service is guaranteed in all rooms and the internal and external common areas.

Villa Crawford is set in beautiful grounds with amazing views of the coastline. Villa Crawford is walkable from Sorrento but in a very peaceful setting, and also very convenient for the Circumvesuviana trainline. The rooms are small, as expected from the accurate pictures on the website, but immaculately clean and with a good shower. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good. I would definitely recommend them for a good value stay in a lovely and characterful setting.

I loved my visit to Villa Crawford. I’ll never forget this special place. Thank you to the nice people who work there and made me feel so welcome and comfortable. For anyone considering staying at the Villa please enjoy that it is in Sant Agnello, a short way from the main part of Sorrento. Sant Agnello is on the Circumvesuviana line and you have a pleasant walk down a pretty lane to Villa Crawford. I much preferred Sant Agnello to busy, crowded Sorrento.

The most beautiful scenery ever!!! Right on the coast of Sorrento. Perfect views from breakfast area , restaurant and terrace. So breath-taking! Breakfast was very good. Service was fantastic! Beautiful garden area. Stayed with my family of six. Great location. Only 10 minutes from the city center. Great value also! Well-priced, especially because hotel is owned by the nuns. I plan to come back here again!

I will tell others about the Villa Crawford - I am now the third member of my family to have stayed there. Very much appreciated the Salesian atmosphere and the opportunity to celebrate Eucharist in the beautiful chapel. Mille grazie!

The facility is gorgeous and the location overlooking the ocean is spectacular. The bed in the room (twin size) had a hard time holding my six foot frame, that was the only thing that would have enhanced the experience.

Those who are unable to check-in / check-out at the predefined times must contact the property directly and notify the reception staff. Villa Crawford enjoys a privileged position: it is located overlooking the sea, in one of the most spectacular points of the Sorrento Peninsula, after Villa Fondi and the Pizzo garden, in a quiet area but only a few steps from the Marinella beach, and about 1km from the center of Sorrento (Piazza Badger). From Sant’Agnello you can easily reach the archaeological sites of Pompeii, Oplontis, and Herculaneum (25 km) by Circumvesuviana or Positano, Amalfi, Ravello with the SITA buses, and with just 15 minutes of navigation you are in Capri. Lovers of the sea and nature will find enchanting the landscapes of the marine park of Punta Campanella and the Bay of Ieranto (FAI protected area) located on the tip of the peninsula where the Lattari mountains degrade to the sea dividing the two gulfs of Naples and Salerno. Opposite, a few nautical miles away, you can admire the splendid island of Capri, once attached to the mainland and today the ideal continuation of the peninsula beyond the sea.
