Historie

Walking along the stretch of coast in front of the beach "La Marinella", overlooking the sea, resting on huge ramparts that rise from the water, you can admire the beautiful villa that belonged to the American writer Francis Marion Crawford, who chose to live in Sant ' Lamb since 1885, the year of his marriage. Thanks to the wonderful location, overlooking the sea, it is possible to admire the Gulf of Naples, the imposing Vesuvius, and the islands of Ischia, Procida, and Capri.

On the writer's death in 1909, the villa passed to his eldest daughter Eleonora, wife of the noble Pietro Rocca di Roccapadula, to whom he gave two children: Leone and Honorius. The first became a lawyer and, at a mature age, a Jesuit; the second became a talented musician and composer, and, on the death of his father, he became a priest and spiritual guide of many young people who frequented his house, Villa Crawford, which he donated, as early as 1954, to the Institute of Mary Help of Christians.

In the history of Sant'Agnello, this villa has played an important role, because it is a point of reference and meeting point of the cultural environment of the time, a cross-section of the nineteenth century, in which the original atmosphere is still palpable, despite the passage of time. The religious house boasts a tradition of hospitality and serenity. The climate contributes to making it a privileged place for spiritual recharge, rest, and relaxation.

Through the Oratory, an educational place open to all young people, it offers an experience rich in human and Christian values ​​which are expressed in a range of educational proposals suitable for different ages.

Jeg elsket besøket mitt på Villa Crawford. Jeg kommer aldri til å glemme dette spesielle stedet. Takk til de hyggelige menneskene som jobber der og fikk meg til å føle meg så velkommen og komfortabel. Alle som vurderer å bo på Villa, kan sette pris på at den ligger i Sant Agnello, en kort vei fra hoveddelen av Sorrento. Sant Agnello ligger på Circumvesuviana-linjen, og du har en hyggelig spasertur ned en pen smug til Villa Crawford. Jeg foretrakk Sant Agnello mye fremfor travle, overfylte Sorrento.

Villa Crawford ligger på en vakker eiendom med fantastisk utsikt over kystlinjen. Villa Crawford ligger i gangavstand fra Sorrento, men i svært fredelige omgivelser, og også veldig praktisk for Circumvesuviana-toglinjen. Rommene er små, som forventet ut fra de nøyaktige bildene på nettsiden, men skinnende rene og med en god dusj. Personalet var vennlige og hjelpsomme, og frokosten var god. Det vakreste landskapet noensinne!!! Rett ved kysten av Sorrento. Perfekt utsikt fra frokostområdet, restauranten og terrassen. Så fantastisk! Frokosten var veldig god. Servicen var fantastisk! Vakkert hageområde. Bodde der med familien min på seks. Flott beliggenhet. Bare 10 minutter fra sentrum. God valuta for pengene også! God pris, spesielt fordi hotellet eies av nonnene. Jeg planlegger å komme tilbake hit igjen!

Stunning setting, friendly staff, simple but very comfortable room, good breakfast and excellent dinner (very reasonable for the Table d'Hote), excellent value for money. I will tell others about the Villa Crawford - I am now the third member of my family to have stayed there. Very much appreciated the Salesian atmosphere and the opportunity to celebrate Eucharist in the beautiful chapel. Mille grazie!

Anlegget er nydelig, og beliggenheten med havutsikt er spektakulær. Sengen på rommet (twin-størrelse) hadde problemer med å holde min 180 cm høye kropp, det var det eneste som ville ha forbedret opplevelsen.

Villa Crawford enjoys a privileged position: it is located overlooking the sea, in one of the most spectacular points of the Sorrento Peninsula, after Villa Fondi and the Pizzo garden, in a quiet area but only a few steps from the Marinella beach, and about 1km from the center of Sorrento (Piazza Badger). From Sant’Agnello you can easily reach the archaeological sites of Pompeii, Oplontis, and Herculaneum (25 km) by Circumvesuviana or Positano, Amalfi, Ravello with the SITA buses, and with just 15 minutes of navigation you are in Capri. Lovers of the sea and nature will find enchanting the landscapes of the marine park of Punta Campanella and the Bay of Ieranto (FAI protected area) located on the tip of the peninsula where the Lattari mountains degrade to the sea dividing the two gulfs of Naples and Salerno. Opposite, a few nautical miles away, you can admire the splendid island of Capri, once attached to the mainland and today the ideal continuation of the peninsula beyond the sea.
