Located in the Abruzzo Apennines, protected by a rock roof, the Hermitage of San Bartolomeo in Legio is located 700 metres high on a rocky spur of around 50 metres and dates back to before the 11th Century.
Fully restored around 1250 by future Pope Celestino V, the site houses a chapel and two hermit rooms dug into the rock, accessed by four stairways, also carved out of the rock face.
