Meals are provided by the monks and guests are asked to eat with the monks. There is also The Grange Restaurant that occupies part of Abbey’s 12th century North Gate and in 1992 was the winner of the Civic Trust Award for Architecture. It can seat 200 people. An outdoor patio offers views of the Abbey and gardens.
The Abbey is in Buckfastleigh, a quaint town within the Dartmoor National Park, a place where wild ponies still roam free. The park possesses a wealth of historic sites and monuments. It is a tableau of rolling moorland, wooded valleys and wind swept Tors (the old Celtic word for tower). A wide-open expanse covering nearly 370 square miles, it features some of the wildest and bleakest country in England. This isolated landscape is known for its uncommon weather conditions that can change in minutes.
