The Way of Le Puy - French Pilgrimage Route

波迪恩西斯路

Le Puy-en-Velay
Saint Jean Pied-de-Port
740km

The Le Puy Route is one of four pathways through France to Santiago de Compostela, the oldest and most traditional French walkway, following the 950 AD route undertaken by Bishop Godesclac.

Starting at Le Puy en Valey, the Via Podiensis passes through Cahors and Moissac enroute to the Basque border with Spain. Following the valley of the Lot River the path passes through several fairy tale French villages ending at the Basque border village of Saint Jean Pied-de-Port - the starting point for the most walked Pilgrimage to Camino de Santiago, the Camino Frances.

Here it merges with two other routes delivering Pilgrims from Northern France, Via Turonensis and the Via Lemovicensis. The fourth French route, Via Tolosana crosses into Spain at Somport before becoming the Aragonese Way.
