Although completely restored in 1964, it was partly damaged by the 1997 earthquake.The town of Assisi has remained largely unchanged since the time of St. Francis.The Basilica di San Francesco remains the town’s most impressive sight.The atmospheric lower church is lavishly enriched with frescoes.The elaborate Gothic styling of the upper church has its share of superlative frescoes as well.

By car: From Perugia or Foligno, exit at Santa Maria degli Angeli on Strada Statale 75 (SS 75) and follow the signs to the center of town. Continue to Porta San Pietro and tell the local police you have a reservation for the casa.They will let you pass and unload the car but then you will have to park outside the walls of Assisi because the town is a pedestrian area.
By train: Get off in Assisi and take a bus to the center of town. Get off at Porta San Pietro (buses can't go further) and walk or take a taxi to the guest house.
