It was established by Father Paul Buguet, a cleric deeply affected by the death of his brother and two nieces. In their honour, he founded the shrine to create a link between people and “the neglected souls of purgatory.”
In 1884 Father Paul Buguet obtained approval for the statute of the “Association for the deliverance of the souls in purgatory” and at the same time created a printing works to spread his ideas. In 1894 the shrine was conceived and completed twelve years later. The association continues to gather followers worldwide. Many pilgrims come for prayer sessions or just to visit the shrine.
All meals are provided with the lodging.
Towels and linens are provided. Three large meeting rooms, bookshop and souvenir shop.

Directions: By car: From Paris take A11 and exit at Chartres. Follow the signs to Nogent le Rotrou, Condé sur Huisne and la Chapelle-Montligeon. By train: From Paris take the Paris-Le Mans line. Get off at Nogent le Rotrou or Condé sur Huisne and take a bus to the shrine. An updated train schedule to La Chapelle is available on the website.
