历史

The Sanctuary of Greccio is one of the four sanctuaries erected by San Francesco in the Holy Valley. Located about 15 km from the provincial capital of Rieti, it is embedded in the rock of the mountains, in the immediate vicinity of the ancient medieval village of Greccio, with a splendid view of the wide Conca Reatina.

The Sanctuary is the place where St. Francis on the night of Christmas 1223 represented the Nativity, symbol and pillar of the founding values ​​of the Christian family, with living characters.

For the guided tour it is possible to contact the Friars Minor of Lazio.
