Rydal Hall began as a farmhouse and since 1409 has been associated with le Fleming family by marriage. Initially, the family lived at Coniston Hall but moved to Rydal.
in 1576. At that time it was converted into a primary residence and remained as such until the 20th century when it was bought and transformed into a retreat centre by the Diocese of Carlisle (1970). The house was built in the 16th century by Michael le Fleming, expanded during the 17th century by Daniel le Fleming and refaced in the 18th. The interior has been considerably altered since its original foundation and the facade modified during the Victorian period. The gardens (now partially restored) were designed by Thomas Mawson in 1909.
All meals can be supplied with the lodging.
At the Youth Centre meals are not supplied but groups can prepare their own meals in a kitchen at their disposal.
