Accommodation available is 8 double rooms with private bath. Both men and women are welcome.
The sanctuary traces it roots to the 13th century when a local shepherd, Juan de Codés, found the image of Mary in this secluded locale. According to legend, the image had been hidden some 200 years earlier by the inhabitants of Cantabria, a city that had been destroyed because its population shared atheist beliefs. Initially, the shrine was housed in a small hermitage but over the centuries, as devotion to the Virgin grew, the structure was enlarged. The main retablo of the church sustains the original image of the Virgin found by the shepherd.
In the 17th century, the Bishop of Calahorra built his summer residence in this sector. He wished to enjoy the fine mountain air as well as the tranquillity of the Sierra de Codés.
All meals can be supplied by the restaurant.

Directions:
By car: From Pamplona or Logroño take N111 to Torres del Río. Once there head west on route NA720 and follow the signs to Torralba del Río and the Santuario.
By train: Get off in Pamplona and take the bus to Torres del Río and contact the Santuario. Small groups can be picked up. Larger groups must take the bus to Los Arcos and then take a taxi to the shrine.
