It was founded in 1606 by a group of Canon nuns when the territory was under the Archdiocese of Burgos. (One of the nuns was the sister of the archbishop). They joined another group of nuns who lived in the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Encino, close to the town of Artziniega.
Meals are supplied only on request, preferably to groups on spiritual retreats. There is also a kitchen available for guests to use.
Towels and linens are supplied. There is a dining room available to guests and meeting rooms on each floor.
By car: From Bilbao go south on route 636 to Sodupe and then turn left onto route 2604 to Artziniega.
By train: Get off at Bilbao and take the bus to Artziniega. Buses from Bilbao leave every 2 hours (even hours); buses from Artziniega to Bilbao leave every hour (odd hours).
