Oversikt

The monastery is a modern, functional building. Ruins of the partly Gothic, partly Baroque ancient church can be visited. 

For accommodation, there are 14 double rooms, each with private bath. Both men and women are welcome. According to Sister Carmen, ”it is a spiritual institution and guests should behave as such."


Historie

The history of the monastery began in 1142 when a group of Franciscan friars founded a convent. They occupied the convent until 1835 when the Desamortización (suppression) forced them to leave. They returned a few years later and remained until the 1970s. At that time, their declining numbers forced them to leave again and join another institution. Sometime later, a couple from Arnedo bought the complex and then sold it to the Cistercian Order. It has been their residence since October 1977.

Directions:

By car: From Zaragoza take highway A68 west exiting at Calahorra and follow the signs heading south to Arnedo. From Arnedo continue south following the signs to Vico-Arnedo and the monastery.

By train/bus: Get off at Calahorra and take the bus to Arnedo. From Arnedo take a taxi to the monastery.
