You can visit the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum housing a collection of Burns most important writing and is an extremely popular attraction, it even has its own café and shop.
The beautiful Culzean Castle and Country Park lies in a picturesque spot on the cliff tops south of Ayr. The grounds hold more than 500 acres of gardens and countryside, with a fountain court and walled Garden with colorful flower beds. From April-October you can go inside the Castle for a guided trip, however the grounds and country park are open all year round.
Visit Ayr´s beautiful sandy beach, the perfect spot for a picnic and to take in the sights. You can also walk the Lang Scots Mile along the seafront, there are many spots along the way to sit and admire the view, the walk runs between Blackburn and Miller´s Follie Car Parks.
You can take a hike up to the Greenan Castle to see the ruins on top of a cliff, and if you make it to the top of the hill you will get to see a spectacular view of the town and the beach, and on some days even some of the islands at sea.
There are some wonderful restaurants and cafés in Ayr to choose from mainly located near the front of town by the coast, making it a great dining location.
Travel
It is easy to get around Ayr by walking and cycling, with many footpaths and cycleways around the hillsides and through Ayrshire.
There are buses that run from Ayr Town and into surrounding villages of Ayrshire and further afield if required.
The closest major Airport to Ayr is Glasgow Airport (GLA) and you can get either a bus or train into Ayr. There is also Prestwick Airport (PIK) which is 4 miles from Ayr. However, it only flies to limited destinations such as Tenerife and Barcelona and doesn’t fly within the UK.
Ayr railway station is in Smith Street and has regular trains running to surrounding areas, and there is also a train from Glasgow to Ayr every 15 minutes taking around an hour.
