The Bridgettine Sisters cordially welcome all to St.Winefride's Guest House for an enjoyable stay open all year round.

The Convent Chapel, adjacent to the guest house, is a sanctuary always open to pilgrims and visitors seeking solace and spiritual enrichment. It serves as a perfect space for quiet contemplation and prayer.

The Bridgettine Convent has a thriving liturgical life, in which all are welcome to participate, that includes daily Mass, celebration of the Divine Office, Holy Rosary and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

No matter when you choose to visit, the Bridgettine Sisters are dedicated to ensuring you receive a warm and heartfelt welcome. The doors are always open to those seeking a retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life, providing a haven of hospitality, peace, and spiritual rejuvenation.

Visitors can explore the holy well and its accompanying chapel, delve into the town's rich history at the Greenfield Valley Heritage Park, and enjoy the scenic countryside with various walking and cycling trails.

Meals are available by request only.
Half board is £16 per person, and full board is £30 per person.

Lunch and dinner options are available at an additional cost and must be pre-ordered in advance.

Lunch is served at 13:00 and Dinner/Supper is served at 19:00 

Please note: No meals will be provided on the day of arrival. Guests can book their meals after they have arrived and settled into the house.

There are shops available nearby for any additional supplies or snacks you may need.

Geschichte

The holy well at St Winefride’s has been a place of pilgrimage since at least 1115. It is said to spring from the spot where 7th-century Welsh abbot St Beuno brought his niece Winifred back to life, although it is likely that this story may actually have much older, pagan origins.

The chapel itself dates from the late 15th century. Set on the hillside, it’s a striking and unusual building, richly decorated and exceptionally well-built. On the bottom floor, the spring water bubbles up into a star-shaped basin beneath an elaborately vaulted ceiling before flowing out into a more recent outdoor pool, where pilgrims still visit to bathe in its waters with their claimed healing properties.

Reputedly the oldest continually visited pilgrim site in Britain, it’s on the route of the North Wales Pilgrim’s Way that travels along the Llŷn Peninsula to Bardsey Island, the legendary ‘Isle of 20,000 Saints’.

Within walking distance you will find the landmark of St Winefride´s Shrine Well located in the village, definitely a sight worth visiting!

I enjoyed my stay at St. Winefride's Guest House very much. The Brigettine sisters were kind and attentive and provided fresh tasty food. The location is convenient to St. Winefride's shrine, just a short walk away, and the same for the village of Holywell.

I felt nurtured by the sisters who were there when needed and were very kind. Just note, payment is in cash as there is no card machine. There is a tesco cash machine and a Santander in the town.

There is a Bus station 1 minute walk away from the Guest House which can take you to a train station or surrounding areas nearby.

By car: From London take M1 until the intersection with M6, then take M6 until the intersection with M56. Take M56 west until the intersection with M53. Continue on M53 until it merges into A55. Take A55 Expressway westbound and leave it at junction 32 sign-posted Holywell and follow brown Heritage signs to St Winefride's Well. Eastbound, leave A55 at junction 31 and follow A5026 into Holywell and then brown Heritage signs to St Winefride's Well.

By train: Take a train from London Euston to Flint and then a taxi to St.Winefride’s Shrine or St.Winefride’s Guest House.
