Geschichte

In the 1950s, a small group of the Daughters of Charity, who had always looked after the sick in the city hospital, were looking for a suitable place to use as a home and as a place to host religious for their spiritual exercises and also as a home rest for the elderly. the Hotel Trullo d’Oro was about to rise on the forest overhang at the behest of the lawyer Spalluto, who not by chance chose the Daughters of Charity for the ceremony of laying the first stone. That day the nuns, surprised by the wonderful panorama of the place, blessed the place by throwing the Miraculous Medal of the Madonna into the ground. That gesture soon became a sign that gave life to their dream ... The Trullo d'Oro hotel, after construction was completed, closed in a short time and offered the Daughters of Charity the opportunity to buy the entire property.

In November 1961 the contract was signed and the extension works began. At this point, the then provincial treasurer, Sr Privitera, called the Trullo d'Oro "Trullo of the Immaculate", placing the house under the protection of the Immaculate Virgin. On the top of the building there is a large statue of the Immaculate Conception, as a sign of gratitude and protection of the house.

In 1971 the sisters began various works such as: nursery school, catechism in the parish, liturgical animation, contact with families and finally the reception of 12 self-sufficient elderly people. Today, the Trullo dell’Immacolata is no longer a retirement home, as there are several residential facilities for the elderly in the area, while it remains as a holiday home, recognized in the tourism list.
