Storia

Casa Cares welcomes some of the asylum seekers and refugees who arrived in Italy thanks to the Humanitarian Corridors within the framework of the Mediterranean Hope project.

The first Syrian refugees arrived in Reggello at the end of February 2016, others have been added to this first group in the following months and others will come to replace those who have completed the paperwork and are ready to start a new life project. Casa Cares, until now, has hosted families and individuals coming mainly from Syria and refugees in Lebanon. After an initial moment of adaptation, the guests began to collaborate as volunteers by engaging, according to their skills, in the various services, in the ordinary maintenance and care of the land and farm animals.

The staff of Casa Cares supports the professional operators of the Waldensian Diaconia, to accompany Syrian friends to discover the language, culture and territory, creating moments of sharing and comparison.Mediterranean Hope is a program of the Federation of Evangelical Churches in Italy (FCEI) and funded by 8X1000 of the Waldensian Church, with the support of some European Protestant churches; arises from the need to implement concrete actions to welcome refugees, and wants to stimulate European institutions and civil society to reflect on the issue of forced migration.

The humanitarian corridors were organized after an extensive dialogue with the Italian authorities, allowing refugees in particular situations of vulnerability to arrive in Italy by plane thanks to a visa for humanitarian reasons. There are 1000 visas granted in two years and the beneficiaries are selected in Lebanon, Morocco and Eritrea. Once they arrive in Italy, migrants are welcomed in various reception facilities also made available by the Waldensian Diaconia, such as Casa Cares. The proposed model is that of widespread reception aimed at promoting the integration of migrants into the host community.

Cibo & bevande

Meals, served as a buffet in the large hall, are one of the experiences most appreciated by the guests of Casa Cares. The staff will cook seasonal food with products from the 0 km organic garden with care and simplicity. The cooks are ready to satisfy any food need by agreeing specific menus for vegetarians, vegans and guests with food intolerances. On request, the House offers coffee breaks and sweet or savory snacks. 
The drinks fridge, the coffee machine and the herbal tea corner are always available to guests.

Terreni & Giardini

On the large terraced park surrounding the house there are cultivate 700 olive trees that produce high quality oil, a small orchard with ancient seed trees, an organic garden.

The care of the territory, environmental sustainability are among the objectives of Casa Cares and constitute an experience to be lived during the stay with guided visits to the vegetable garden and with a taste of some oil recognized by Slow food as one of the best in the area.

A large theater-chapel with a wooden floor is the largest and most loved space by yoga, biodance and meditation groups but also, for its excellent acoustics, by singers and orchestras and by all groups who want to meet in plenary.

The stove room, the sitting room, the fireplace room, the games room, set up with tables, chairs and armchairs are perfect for working in small groups, for meetings, workshops and for relaxing in front of the fireplace with a good book.

At guests' disposal, wifi, video projector, audio system, board games, magazines and a well-stocked library in multiple languages.
