Storia

The first stone of the chapel was laid in December 1909 for the future Major Seminary. The seminary was inaugurated in 1911, but in 1914, it was transformed into a hospital and accommodated up to 100 wounded. In 1919, the activities of the seminary resumed, 3 nuns of the Charity of Besançon take care of the kitchen and the laundry, 3 employees help with various tasks.

In 1956, the seminary was closed. For 15 years, from 1980 to 1995, the building housed the Archdiocese. In 1973, the seminary reopened to become interdiocesan. 30 years later, in 2003, it closed again definitively.

Then begins a reflection on what to do with this large building. In 2006, renovation work began to make it a diocesan house, that is to say a house bringing together on the same site, different realities at the service of the Catholic Church.

  • In November 2007, the Archdiocese settled there,
  • Private apartments are delivered and intended for people in connection with the Church
  • In June 2008, opening to diocesan movements and associations, but they will not stay and will be replaced by the communication service of the diocese (Crossmedia).
  • 2015 opening of Crossmedia (RCF Radio, Web TV, website ...)

Over the years, since the building was renovated in 2006-2007, a small hotel business has emerged. If at the beginning, it mainly welcomed the Archbishop's guests who had come to visit him, speakers or people in connection with the Church, today it is more open to people wishing to find a place of welcome. quiet and peaceful in the center of the city of Avignon.

Cibo & bevande

The breakfast served in the hotel is self-service because the house is not strictly speaking a hotel, however you will find at your disposal: coffee (Nespresso type), tea, chocolate, milk, butter, jam, Nutella, honey, bread, industrial pastries.

A drink dispenser (payable) is available in the cafeteria on the ground floor of the house.

As for meals, the house is located near the Place des Corps Saints on which you will find a multitude of bars and restaurants ranging from the pizzeria to the more chic restaurant. But if you push your stroll a little further, in the pedestrianized city center, there too you will find an incredible offer of restaurants, thanks to the Festival d'Avignon which attracts thousands of festival-goers every summer.

Terreni & Giardini

The city of Avignon has few public green spaces, fortunately one is very close to the house: the Square Agricol Perdiguier in which you will find in addition to a beautiful collection of Mediterranean plants, the remains of a Gothic cloister. Sit down on a bench in the cool shade of one of the tall trees.

But do not hesitate to take your walk to the Jardin du Rocher des Doms. The view of the Avignon bridge is exceptional.

Pay attention to the opening hours of these gardens, which differ between winter and summer.

Servizi aggiuntivi

Internet is available throughout the house, either by WIFI or in your room by cable. This free access, however, requires you to register on a Web interface (Click & Surf). During 96 hours your connection will be automatic, after this time you will have to renew your connection to Click & Surf.

In the hotel's common room, you can sit on the sofa or armchair to watch TV.

And if you don't want to go out to eat in the city, you can prepare your meal in the house's shared kitchen.
