Historia

A religious family in a Church founded in Lecce (Italy) on March 25, 1885 by Don Filippo Smaldone, which he officially called the "Institute of the Salesian Sisters of the Sacred Hearts" with a special charism consisting in revealing God's merciful love to marginal people of that time, carrying out, as the main apostolate, the evangelization of the deaf and dumb through their education.

The name of Salesian Sisters of the Sacred Hearts was chosen by the Foundress to refer to the model of spirituality of Saint Francis de Sales, characterized by attention to the person, especially if in need, and by the merciful and maternal love of the hearts of Jesus and Mary.

The Institute received the diocesan decree of canonical erection on 27 January 1895, the decree of praise from Benedict XV on 30 November 1915; and was recognized as pontifical right by Pius XI on 21 June 1925.
