Historia

The Marist Fathers arrived in Belgium in 1856 for the foundation of the first school in Fleurus. Gradually, the Marist presence spread as much in Wallonia as in the Flemish country and in Brussels. Basic, Secondary (general and technical) as well as Normal (teachers and regents) education becomes the privileged field of action of the Brothers.

In 1911, Belgian fathers opened their first schools in the Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) and in 1952, they did the same in Rwanda.

Today, seven fathers and a diocesan priest constitute the Marist community of Bua. Some are at rest, others take care of the management, small jobs, the garden, the animation and the reception in the house, others still are more committed towards the outside through various services: parish animation, visits to patients, support for French teachers, team of homes, support for disabled people, etc.

Recently, the community has been involved in a social integration partnership, on the one hand with Asinerie de l'O and on the other hand, with La Toupie. These two works provide training to unemployed people with a view to being reintegrated into the work circuit.

Continuing to welcome school and parish groups, and face a growing demand from groups of adults who wish to experience a time of formation, often in the educational, social and cultural fields. In addition, the house is regularly the place chosen for meetings of Fathers and Lay Marists, whether at national or international level.
