The shrine (less than a mile from the hotel), is perched on a cliff at 1300’ of altitude, halfway up the vertical rock of Monte Baldo. The Hotel Stella Alpina is owned by the shrine but managed by lay personnel. Hospitality is offered from April until October. 90 guests can be hosted in 11 double rooms with private baths and 33 mini-apartments (2, 4 or 6 beds) with private baths.
The site was originally a hermitage founded in 1193 by the monks of the Monastery of San Zeno of Verona. Due to its spectacular position, it became popular as Madonna of the Crown. The hermitage was entrusted to the Knights of the Order of Malta in 1437. They built a small church between 1480 and 1522. The shrine was enlarged in 1625 and has undergone several restorations. It is enhanced with a neo-Gothic facade and belltower set in the rock of the mountain.
All meals are offered with the lodging, but guests may opt to dine inside or outside the hotel. Guests in the mini-apartments may prepare their meals in a kitchen at their disposal. There is a restaurant, cafe, conference hall, garden area and private parking.
Towels and linens are provided.
