Once a boarding school, the convent has served as a guest house for more than twenty-five years. For accommodation, there are 24 single and double rooms with private bath. Some doubles can be turned into triples for families with children. There also is a campsite for tents and RVs. Both men and women are welcome.
The convent was founded in the 13th century by Saint Francis. When the saint visited Santiago de Compostela, he established a convent there. After visiting Louro, he created a small hermitage which was later enlarged and became a convent in the 14th century. The Franciscan friars inhabited the institution until 1835 at which time they were forced to leave due to the suppression of religious orders. Sometime later, a wealthy man from Santiago de Compostela bought the property and returned it to the Franciscan Order. After an absence of thirty-five years, the friars returned.
