Monastero di Santa Scolastica, Subiaco

Historia

Disenchanted with Rome’s decadence, St. Benedetto left the city in the early
part of the 6th century and lived as a hermit in a cave above Subiaco. The cave (Sacro Speco) that the saint inhabited for three years was later developed in Cistercian Gothic style and exists today as a stunning edifice built into the side of the cliff. Many of St. Benedetto’s followers joined him and over the years
built thirteen monasteries. Two of the thirteen survived, Santa Scolastica and San Benedetto.

Comida y bebida

Meals can be included with the lodging. Guests have three options:
1) Breakfast only. 2) Breakfast and dinner. 3) Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

All rooms have telephones and TV. There is a cafe, 2 conference halls, private parking and a chapel. Towels and linens are supplied. The facility is accessible for the handicapped. The monks maintain a small bookbinding facility for religious publications. They also produce honey which is sold in the Herb Shop of the monastery. One of the monks is a painter and his work may be viewed.
